Socastee’s Renfrows top list of region football honorees

Clear off another shelf on the Renfrow family trophy case; there are two big pieces of hardware on the way.

Socastee junior quarterback Hunter Renfrow was named the Region 7-3A Player of the Year and father and coach Tim Renfrow was named the Coach of the Year for the undefeated region champion Braves.

Runner-up Myrtle Beach won the rest of the top honors, with receiver/defensive back Trell Harrell named Athlete of the Year, receiver/wildcat QB CJ Cooper the Offensive Player of the Year and linebacker Octavius “OT” Thomas the Defensive Player of the Year.

Socastee (11-0) and Myrtle Beach (10-1) dominated the all-region first team, with seven Seahawks and five Braves on the squad.

Myrtle Beach QB Tyler Keane, tight end Renard Pointer, offensive lineman Heath Gray, defensive lineman CJ Robinson, linebacker Sean Michael Orcutt, defensive back Jack Montgomery and kicker Max Huggins made the list.

Socastee running back Daquon Brown, OL Kyle Burton, DL Dakota Morgan, LB Adam Crane and DB Zack Hyde also made the cut.

Other first-teamers include St. James RB Austin Adams, DB Colby Gore, OL Dylan Denis and punter Conner Brown, North Myrtle Beach WR Cameron Gore and DB Colby Gore, Georgetown WR Alvin Walker, DL Anthony Blair, LB Jordan Ward and OLs Dustin Martin and Dillon Alford and Wilson WR Christian Bruce and DL Jerrell Timmons.

Local second-teamers include Socastee DB Erick Mortel, K Matt Trimby, LB Matt Chatfield and OLs Garrett Melton and Joe Mateo; North Myrtle Beach RB Delonzo Williams, OL Gerodie Graham, DL Jahlen Livingston and LB Laquinn Bellamy; and St. James TE Jake Loud and P Matthew Josey.

Local honorable mention went to Socastee DL Andrew Baddoo, DB Wayne Bauerle, TE Nick Goolsby and RB Tommy Lazaroff; Myrtle Beach’s WR Malik Waring, OL Griffin Wright, DB Kelton Greene and DLs Marcus Chestnut and Cordell Brown; St. James QB Josh Roper, RB Alan Crum, WRs Tre McCallum and Steven Diebel; and North Myrtle Beach WR Kyle Cooper, LB Treshon Cox and OL Tyrese Patrick.
