Soccer: CF erases 3-goal deficit, rallies past Conway

consoc-20and6The Carolina Forest boys soccer team completed a 4-3 comeback victory over rival Conway on Tuesday to earn its third straight Region 6-4A win.

The Panthers (4-4 overall, 3-2 region) found themselves trailing 2-0 at halftime and went down 3-0 early in the second half before rattling off four unanswered goals for the win.

The Panthers’ first score came from an own-goal by a Tiger defender. The Panthers then got goals from Freddie Kane and Alan Rosas to tie it at 3-all. Anthony Powalie scored the game-winner on a penalty kick to cap the comeback.

The Panthers’ next game is at 7 p.m. Thursday against Mill Creek High out of Atlanta. The game will be played at the Coastal Carolina University Soccer Field.

* St James 3, Wilson 1: The Sharks got goals from Jackson Hurston, John Astudillo, and Garrett Greene to down the Tigers. Drew Volpe and Andres Celis had one assist each.

* Myrtle Beach 5, Georgetown 0: The No. 2-ranked Seahawks shut out the Bulldogs to remain undefeated in Region 7-3A play.

Myrtle Beach got goals from five different players – Adolfo Aguilar, Foster Russell, Abdul Masharifov, Alan Vasquez and Lerol Parchment – and goalkeeper David Caraker made three saves to post his sixth shutout of the season.

* Socastee 5, West Florence 1: The 10th-ranked Braves finished the first half of the Region 6-4A schedule with a perfect 5-0 league mark by defeating the host Knights.

The Braves (13-3, 5-0) got two goals apiece from Chris Matlashewski and Konner Price, and Jake Perito extended his scoring streak with one goal. Nick Koonce made two assists and John Cetin and Price had one apiece.Assist were provided by Konner Price, and Nick Koonce (2).

Girls

* Carolina Forest 5, Conway 0: The Lady Panthers scored five unanswered goals to claim a key Region 6-4A win over the Lady Tigers.

Carolina Forest’s Janelle Rutledge assisted on her team’s first two goals – one to Alexis McCarthy and another to sister Amber Rutledge – before scoring herself on an assist from Sara Padula for a 3-0 halftime lead. Katelyn Perry and Christina Niederegger scored second-half goals to close out the victory.

* West Florence 3, Socastee 1: The Lady Braves were upset on the road by the Lady Knights, who scored three unanswered goals in the second half to get the win.

Socastee started the game off with a quick goal by Mellette Mackie for a 1-0 halftime lead before West Florence ran away with it. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Runyon had four saves for the Lady Braves.
