Soccer: CF swept by WF; Lady Braves beat NMB

The Carolina Forest boys and girls soccer teams suffered a pair of tough region losses at West Florence on Tuesday.

The Lady Panthers (8-6 overall, 5-1 Region 6-4A) lost their first-place showdown with the Lady Knights (12-7-1, 7-0) 4-1 in a battle of unbeatens in the region. Riley Lynch scored the lone goal for the Lady Panthers.

The Carolina Forest boys followed with yet another shootout loss, this time to the last-place Knights (6-9-1, 2-4). West Florence scored a 2-1 victory after winning the penalty-kick shootout by a 5-4 score.

Carolina Forest’s Kevin O’Meara scored the lone goal for the Panthers (6-9-1, 3-3) to tie it at 1-all just before halftime, and that’s how the score stood at the end of regulation and two overtime periods. Each team made their first four shots before the Knights converted and the Panthers did not.

In a rain-induced scheduling quirk, Carolina Forest and West Florence play again Wednesday, this time at the Panthers’ home turf at the CCU Soccer Complex.

Boys

* Myrtle Beach 8, Georgetown 0: Nolin Butler and Franc Lamjca scored two goals apiece and goalkeeper Skylar Hribar posted the shutout as the No. 4-ranked Seahawks (16-3-1, 8-1) easily disposed of the Bulldogs.

Arly Barr’s goal in the first minute opened the floodgates as Butler and Lamjca made it a 5-0 lead just 18 minutes into the game. Alex Mende and Brooks Swanson capped the first half with goals and Nico Sandoz scored the lone goal of the second half.

The Seahawks play host to rival North Myrtle Beach on Wednesday night needing a win and a loss or draw by No. 2 Socastee to claim first place in the region. Myrtle Beach split the season series with the Braves, who hold the edge in point differential.

* Socastee 4, North Myrtle Beach 0: The No. 2-ranked Braves (16-2, 8-1) stayed on course for a region title by shutting out the Chiefs. Connor Norton-Baker scored a pair of goals and Wesley Durham and David Debus added one apiece in the victory as the Braves try to close out the region title with a win over St. James on Wednesday night.

* Socastee 3, North Myrtle Beach 1: The Lady Braves kept their playoff positioning hopes alive by beating the Lady Chiefs. Isabela Vicentino scored a pair of goals and Courtney Davis added another Socastee is 5-2 in the region going into Wednesday’s showdown with first-place contender St. James.
