Soccer: Conway heels over heads thanks to hot starts

consoc-shoesConway High has always been known as a football school. If this spring is the start of a trend, it might also become a futbol school.

The Conway boys and girls soccer teams scored impressive shutout victories over visiting Andrews on Thursday. The Tigers (3-0) remained undefeated on the season with a 9-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets, while the Lady Tigers (3-1) tripled their win total from last season with a 7-0 shutout victory.

Under first-year head coach Keith Francis, the Conway girls showed their growing confidence right out of the gate as Paige Neff scored just 3 minutes into the game and Zakera Chadmon added two more for a 3-0 halftime lead. Freshman Atley Livingston scored two goals, and sophomore Michelle Espinoza and junior Demetia Jenkins also scored goals. Junior goalkeepers Molly Hopkins and Savannah Reck posted a half each for the shutout.

The Conway boys got a hat trick from Sammy Sawyer and single goals by Michael Brown, Chris Johnson, Buddy Fuentes, Nahrinder Singh and Jesus Resendiz.  Jason Kemble had a hat trick for assists, Sawyer added two, and James Rhodes and Johnson had one assist apiece.

The Conway teams head to West Florence on Friday looking to improve to 2-0 in Region 6-4A play.
