Soccer: MB girls edge SJ; Sharks, Chiefs roll to wins

mbsoc-sjThe Myrtle Beach High girls soccer team won a huge first-place showdown in Region 7-4A on Friday night, defeating visiting St. James 5-4 in a thriller at chilly Ashley Booth Field.

Myrtle Beach’s Tristan Gordon and Taylor Pirttima scored two goals apiece and Charis Dorman added another as the Lady Seahawks (6-0, 2-0 region) downed the Lady Sharks (5-1, 1-1) in a battle of unbeatens.

After St. James struck first in the opening minutes, Gordon had a shot glance off the post and Dorman cleaned it up to even the score. The Lady Seahawks never trailed again as Gordon and Pirttima tallied two scores apiece.

* North Myrtle Beach 8, Marlboro County 0: Brooke Kennedy, Jenna Berger, and Hadley Hudson each scored 2 goals to lead the Lady Chiefs over the host Lady Bulldogs.

Jordan Berger and Emma Delaney each tallied one goal. Assists were provided by Renea Urbaniak (2), Brooke Kennedy (2), Taylor Monahan, and Sarai Cardoza. Goalkeepers Montana Fields and Jordan Hernandez split the shutout.

* Christian Academy 7, Trinity Byrnes 0: The Lady Saints won their SCISA region opener with a shutout over Trinity Byrnes.

Anna Kate Green scored a hat trick, and Brae Jackson added a pair of goals for the Lady Chiefs, Sidney Croland and Julia Markley added one goal apiece. Assists were made by Jackson, Alexis Hildenbrandt, Mary Addison Davis, Alley Tyndall, Julia Markley, and Brynley Hall.

* St. James 5, Myrtle Beach 2: The Sharks bounced back from a tough loss to North Myrtle Beach earlier this week to throw the region race into a tailspin.

St. James saw five different players score goals – Riley Parker, Luke Williams, Garrett Greene, Addison Bryant and Chris Young. Parker made two assists and Williams and Green added one each.

The Sharks dealt the Seahawks their first Region 7-4A defeat, leaving the Chiefs alone in first place in the early going.

* North Myrtle Beach 9, Marlboro County 0: The Chiefs took over sole possession of first place in the Region 7-4A standings by shutting out the Bulldogs on the road.

* Socastee 8, Conway 0: The Braves got a pair of goals from Chris Matlashewski and Amar Elsibai to shut out the Tigers.
