Soccer: MB sweeps NMB; Braves capture region title

The Myrtle Beach boys and girls soccer teams closed out the regular season with a shutout sweep over visiting rival North Myrtle Beach.

The Lady Seahawks (12-3 overall, 8-2 Region 7-3A) scored a 3-0 victory over the Lady Chiefs (9-9, 4-6), while the No. 4-ranked Seahawks (17-3, 9-1) claimed a 4-0 win over the Chiefs (6-12-1, 3-7).

Mason Lewis, who committed to play his college soccer at Presbyterian College), opened the scoring for the Seahawks in the 17th minute, and Franc Lamjca made it a 2-0 lead just minutes later on a penalty kick.

Lamjca assisted Nolin Butler’s goal to make it a 3-0 halftime advantage and freshman Nico Sandoz converted a pass from Brandon Harrington for the lone goal of the second half.

Both North Myrtle Beach squads were eliminated from playoff contention while Myrtle Beach will send both teams to the postseason as No. 2 seeds. The boys will play host to Lakewood on Tuesday.

Boys

* Socastee 3, St. James 1: The Braves (17-2, 9-1) clinched the Region 7-3A championship by beating the visiting Sharks (12-7-1, 5-4), sending them into next week’s playoffs as the No. 1 seed and ranked No. 2 in the state.

Socastee will host a first-round game on Tuesday while the third-seeded Sharks will close out the regular season against Wilson on Friday before traveling to an opponent to be determined.

Girls
