The North Myrtle Beach girls soccer team scored a dramatic comeback victory over St. James on Tuesday, claiming a 4-3 overtime win that came down to penalty kicks in a Region 7-4A opener for both teams.
With the Lady Sharks leading 3-2 late in regulation, North Myrtle Beach’s Taylor Monahan scored her second goal of the game in the final seconds to force overtime. Both teams remained scoreless through double overtime before the Lady Chiefs sealed the comeback in PKs.
North Myrtle Beach goalkeeper Jordan Hernandez made 12 saves, including a pair of big stops in PKs. The Lady Chiefs’ other goal came on Hadley Hudson’s conversion of a Linsey Downey assist.
NMB won in PK’s (4-2). Goalkeeper Jordan Hernandez had 12 saves in the game and two huge saves in PK’s. Taylor Monahan notched her second goal in the very last seconds of regulation forcing overtime. Hadley Hudson also scored and an assist was provided by Linsey Downey.
St. James’ goals were scored by Ileana de los Santos, Lindsey Williams and Liz de los Santos.
The Lady Sharks face another tough test Friday against visiting Myrtle Beach. North Myrtle Beach visits Marlboro County on Friday.

* St. James 4, North Myrtle Beach 0: The Sharks rolled past the Chiefs in the Region 7-4A opener for both squads.
Garrett Greene led the Sharks with two goals, and Dalton Arseneau and Luke Williams added one goal apiece. Avery Williams, Riley Parker and Andrew Broome all contributed to the attack with 1 assist each, and goalkeeper Max Davila posted the win and shutout with six saves.
* Myrtle Beach 6, Wilson 0: The Seahawks shut out the Tigers in their Region 7-4A debut on Tuesday.
Myrtle Beach juniors Coby Arambula scored multiple goals to lead the Seahawks, and teammates Sam Coughlin, Roman Perez and Max Ferguson found the back of the net once.
Goalkeepers William Mendoza and Anrick Smith combined for a half each in the shutout. Myrtle Beach returns to action next Friday at Marlboro County.
