Softball: Chiefs charge past Braves for season’s first win

nmbsoft-17throwThe North Myrtle Beach High softball team captured its first win of the season Wednesday with a 6-4 road victory over Socastee.

The Lady Braves jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one inning of play but the Lady Chiefs managed to tie it up entering the seventh inning and plate a pair of runs in the third to tie it, then score the go-ahead run in the fifth. North Myrtle Beach added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh and stopped a Socastee rally in the bottom of the frame for the win.

North Myrtle Beach’s Myatt Hardwick enjoy a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate and teammates Sara Ballard and Andie  Crimminger each went 2-for-4. Crimminger also drove in a pair of runs that proved to be the difference in the tight contest. Cissy Doolittle earned the win on the mound as the Lady Chiefs improved to 1-2 on the season.

The Lady Braves were led at the plate by Abby Duggan and Madison Myers with two hits apiece but fell to 0-3 on the season.

North Myrtle Beach returns to action across the state border Friday at West Brunswick.

* Timberland 9, St. James 8: The Lady Sharks were the victims of a major rally by the host Lady Wolves, who earned a walk-off win in extra innings.

St. James held a seemingly comfortable 6-1 lead when the Lady Wolves scored two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to send it into extras. The Lady Sharks reclaimed the lead with a run in the top of the eighth but Timberland struck again in the bottom of the frame to cap the thrilling comeback.

The late rally spoiled a 12-hit outing at the plate by the Lady Sharks. Dominique Gross went 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs, and Skye Bailey, Kelsey Gollie and Kenly Daves had two hits apiece.
