Softball: Sharks, Panthers, Chiefs net big region wins

nmbsoft-18pitchThe St. James High softball team officially hopped into the driver’s seat of the Region 7-4A standings Friday night with a convincing 7-2 victory over visiting Myrtle Beach.

After rallying to defeat fellow region title contender North Myrtle Beach earlier this week, the Lady Chiefs remained undefeated in league play by knocking off the Lady Seahawks for sole possession of first place.

St. James pitcher Brooks Silva pitched a complete-game six-hitter with four strikeouts and one walk. Spiva also led the team in hitting with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with an RBI.

Myrtle Beach’s Carly Bodge also went the distance, giving up nine hits and battling to overcome four team errors. Madison Needle went 2-for-3 and Bodge added a hit.

* North Myrtle Beach 9, Marlboro County 3: Cissy Doolittle struck out 17 batters to lead the Lady Chiefs to their first region victory of the season.

North Myrtle Beach Sara Ballard, Myatt Hartwick and Taylor Gore had to hits apiece for the Lady Chiefs.

* Carolina Forest 14, South Florence 3: The Lady Panthers continued their hot streak at the plate for the second consecutive night.

After blasting Laurenville 15-8 on Thursday night, the Lady Panthers delivered a 14-3 road win over the Lady Bruins for their first Region 6-5A victory.

Carolina Forest’s Skylar James went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and 3 RBIs. Rachel Lindaberry had two doubles, and Jordan Martin, Emma Liles and Lauren Rhibar added two hits apiece. Liles threw a complete game, allowing two earned runs.

Carolina Forest returns to action Monday against region foe Sumter.
