Softball: SJ takes another tough loss to Timberland

sjsoft-6The Timberland High softball team seems to have St. James’ number – and that number is 1. That’s the number of runs the Lady Wolves have defeated the Lady Sharks by twice in the past three days – this time in a 4-3 nail-biter at Finway Park.

Following Wednesday’s extra-inning thriller at Timberland, which erased a five-run deficit to take a 9-8 win in extra innings, the Lady Sharks tried to turn the tables by rallying from a three-run deficit to tie it up before giving up the game-winner in the seventh inning.

Timberland scored all three of its run in the top of the first before St. James pitcher Brooks Silva found her mark and held the Lady Wolves scoreless over the next five frames.

St. James scrapped its way back with single runs in the first, third and fifth to level the score at 5-all. Skye Bailey and Kelsey Gollie each went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the comeback. Silva allowed only three hits but two of them were home runs, including the game-winner.

* West Brunswick (NC) 8, North Myrtle Beach 0: The Lady Chiefs crossed the state line to face the Lady Trojans, but they didn’t gain make much ground on the softball diamond.

North Myrtle Beach managed only four hits, two of them from Regan Urbaniak, and failed to score. Starting pitcher Sara Ballard was roughed up early for two runs in each of the first two innings.
