Sosa repeats in Myrtle Beach Triathlon Club event

Diego Sosa won the second Triathlon event of the summer for the Myrtle Beach Triathlon Club this morning. This is the second win in a row for Sosa who also won the opening event held in June. Michal Kovac was the runner up.

May Lauzon finished first in the women’s category. “It felt good. It was very fast. I was really trying to catch some of the guys out there,” Lauzon said after the race.

The sold out event, held in North Myrtle Beach at Docksiders inside of Barefoot Resort saw 60 athletes competing in a Sprint Style Triathlon.

Rich DeFalco of Professional Rehabilitation Services of Myrtle Beach was competing in his first Triathlon, “ It was challenging to say the least. The swim felt like a lifetime to me. I think I tried about 4 different strokes and probably invented a couple of my own. Once I got out of the water, it felt a little better.”

Craig Lynberg was competing in just his second Tri, “It was awesome. I didn’t train for it. I trained for the first one and it was a little easier, but it was definitely a great experience”

Known as a regular training location for many athletes, Docksiders and the Barefoot Resort provided the perfect location for the endurance event. Lauzon said “the venue is excellent; the swim is enclosed so it was very beginner friendly.” Runner up Kovacs pointed out that it “would be a great course for an Olympic length triathlon.”

Event Director Pete Politis believes that this location could see bigger and longer races in the future. “The city of North Myrtle Beach was very easy to deal with. They rolled out the red carpet for us”

The Myrtle Beach Triathlon Club locally hosts several events during the year. Formed in 2009, “The main focus of the club is getting new people into the sport. We are also a club for existing athletes to have a place to train,” said Politis. Their next event will be held August 26th in Garden City. For more information, visit them online at MBTriClub.org.
