St. James boys, NMB girls win region championships

The St. James High boys edged Myrtle Beach by two points to claim the Region 7-4A championship, and the host North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs swam away with the girls title Saturday at the North Myrtle Beach Recreation Center.

The Sharks tallied 103 points to edge the Seahawks (101), followed by St. James (42) and Wilson (3). The Lady Chiefs racked up 117 points to outdistance Myrtle Beach (64), St. James (60) and Wilson (24).

The St. James boys struck gold in the 200 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay, and the Sharks got individual wins from Christian Patricio (100 Butterfly),, Casey Mitchell (100 Breaststroke and 500 Free), Tom Young (100 Backstroke), and Lex Whalen (200 Free).

The North Myrtle Beach girls won the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays, and the Lady Chiefs got individual wins from Summer Ratley (100 Butterfly and 500 Free), Sydney Hardman (50 and 100 Free), Brynne Hardman (200 IM) and Jenna Downey (100 Breaststroke), who edged teammate Rivers Chandler by 1/100th of a second.

The Myrtle Beach boys won the 400 Free Relay and got individual wins from Ryan Eldred (50 and 100 Free) and Ian Morgan (200 IM). The Lady Sehawks got gold medal performances from Olivia McGonigal (100 Backstroke) and Catherine Miller (200 Free)
