Strand cleans up Class 5A Player of the Year awards

For the first time since the SCHSL went to five classifications, both the Class 5A girls and boys players of the year hail from the Grand Strand.

Carolina Forest senior Alexis Tomlin and Conway senior Jimmy Nichols were named Player of the Year in their respective divisions by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association on Monday. Both Tomlin and Nichols averaged double-doubles in leading their teams to top 10 rankings entering the Class 5A playoffs later this week.

Myrtle Beach placed a member of its boys and girls teams on the Class 4A all-state squad. Seahawks star guard Robert Swanson and Lady Seahawks forward Janell Horton.

Conway also placed a member of the Lady Tigers on the Class 5A all-state list in senior Lenaejah Evans.
