Local volleyball teams make deep runs at CF Invitational

Saturday’s Carolina Forest Invitational featured 15 of the top teams from South Carolina and Georgia, but the final rounds looked a lot like the Grand Strand Invitational.

Myrtle Beach High advanced to the finals, falling 2-0 to tournament champion Blythewood (25-23, 25-19), and three local teams made up the semifinals. HBost Carolina Forest and North Myrtle Beach made strong final-four runs before falling to the finalists in exciting finishes.

Myrtle Beach rallied to defeat Carolina Forest in a tiebreaker (23-25, 25-20, 15-8), while North Myrtle Beach held tough against Blythewood (25-20, 25-20). The final two rounds capped a wild day of action on three different courts playing simultaneously throughout the day.

Conway, Socastee and St. James also took part in the preseason tune-up but fell in the first round of the tournament. Several local teams open the regular season this week.

Each team placed one player on the all-tournament team. Local representatives include Caroline Todd (Conway), Rebecca Arteaga (St. James), Danni Hix (Myrtle Beach), Maddie Roy (North Myrtle Beach) and Anna Walker (Socastee).
