Strand youth running club ready for cross country

kidsxcThe Grand Strand Area Youth Track and Running Club’s cross country season begins Monday, Sept. 12, at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach.

The club is open to boys and girls in three age divisions: 8 and under, 9-12, and 13-18 after the end of the high school cross country season). All interest athletes living in the coastal areas from Georgetown to Little River, SC, as well as the Calabash, Ocean Isle Beach, and Brunswick County, NC.

Veteran or seasoned athletes who have previously competed in USATF and/or at a competitive level are advised to compete in local area 3K/5K runs and set weekly mileage goals of at least 15-18 miles a week for ages 8 and below, and 20-25 miles a week for Ages 9-12.

Weekly practices will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., with dates to be determined based on availability of the track facilities. Athletes may pre-register by downloading the registration form from online and e-mailing the form to Coach Rich at mbtrackcoach@gmail.com.

Cross country registration is $75 for current members (with uniform and current USATF Memberships) and $125 for new members (uniform, USATF membership, club membership fee) for the season, which unofficially begins Oct. 1 and runs through Dec 14.
