Tennis: Saints stop Sharks; Seahawks down Socastee

cambtennis-harrelsongoreThe Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach girls tennis team claimed a 9-0 sweep over St. James  on Wednesday to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Lady Saints ran the table against the Lady Sharks thanks to big performances by Tatianna Harrelson and Caroline Gore.

Harrelson didn’t lose a game in winning in straight sets at No. 1 singles and a pro-set in No. 1 doubles, while playing partner Gore rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the first set to win in a 10-point tie breaker at No. 3 singles.

No. 2 singles Chloe Parker, No. 4 Grace Houghton, No. 5 Sam Fanning and No. 6 Ashley Bass all won in straight sets. No. 2 doubles partners Parker and Grace Houghton and No. 3 Fanning and Greer Houghton won their pro-sets.

* Myrtle Beach 5, Socastee 1: The Lady Seahawks won their season opener over the visiting Lady Braves, narrowly missing out on a clean sweep.

Socastee’s Anna Brice Cox earned the lone win for the Lady Braves at No. 1 singles in a third-set tiebreaker. With regular No. 1 Elizabeth Truluck out of the lineup, Cox defeated Emma Springs in the third-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6.

Myrtle Beach’s No. 2 singles Bailey Deskins defeated Joy Renfrow, No. 3 Paxton Gentry beat Kristian Case, No. 4 Sarah Woodward downed Hannah Bean, No. 5 Catherine Truluck topped Marie Benedetti, and No. 2 doubles partners Janell Horton and Cayce Roberts ousted Nicole Mortell and Kyndal Hodge – all in straight sets.

* Aynor 4, Carolina Forest 2: The Lady Panthers lost the season series with Aynor despite a strong performance by No. 2 singles Eva Vandoros.

In a loss to Aynor last week, Vandoros fell to Aynor’s Heleana Toth in straight sets. On Wednesday she turned it around to win a marathon match at 7-6, 4-6, 10-8.

Carolina Forest’s other win came at No. 2 doubles as Brittany Morgan and Joslyn McCray defeated Rebekah Altman and Chelsie Rabon 6-2, 6-0.
