Tennis: Seahawks, Braves net region championships

mbgtennis-jumpFor the fifth consecutive season, the Myrtle Beach High girls tennis team claimed the Region 7-3A title with a 7-0 sweep over visiting rival North Myrtle Beach.

As the lone senior on Senior Day, Catherine Truluck was honored before the match and congratulated after it by claiming a straight-sets victory in No. 5 singles for the Lady Seahawks.

No. 1 singles and younger sister Elizabeth Truluck (MB) scored a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win, and No. 2 singles Emma Springs, No. 3 Bailey Deskins, and No. 4 Paxton Gentry also won in straight sets.

Springs and Elizabeth Truluck teamed up to win No. 1 doubles in a pro set, and Sarah Woodard and Cayce Roberts prevailed at No. 2 doubles as Myrtle Beach claims the top seed heading into next week’s playoffs.

* Socastee 4, West Florence 2: The Lady Braves capped a perfect run through their region schedule with a win at West Florence.

Socastee’s No. 1 singles player Anna Brice Cox, No. 2 Joy Renfrow and No. 4 Nicole Mortel won their individual matches, and No. 2 doubles partners Marie Benedetti and Hannah Beam got the clincher.

* Carolina Forest 4, Conway 3: The Lady Panthers got a clutch performance and match-deciding win from No. 2 doubles partners Casey Mallon and Brittany Morgan to edge the Lady Tigers. See full match results below:
