Tennis Roundup: Panthers, Seahawks suffer 4-3 defeats

The Carolina Forest and Myrtle Beach girls tennis teams suffered difficult 4-3 defeats on Thursday.

The Lady Panthers fell one match short of a region win over visiting South Florence, while the Lady Seahawks came up just shy of knocking off non-region foe Waccamaw.

The Lady Panthers got singles wins from No. 3 Jaden Nye over Jordan Galloway 6-3, 6-3, No. 5 Maddie Jones over Alicia Fischer 6-3, 6-1. Carolina Forest’s No. 2 doubles team of Emilee Best and Cheyenne Mackenna defeated Mirella Minilla and Ari Roberts 6-2, 6-1

Carolina Forest No. 1 singles Lydia Gouhin lost to Taylor Hyman (6-0, 6-2 and No. 2 Lanie Ruedy (CF) fell to Channe Harris 6-0, 6-3. The South Florence duo also teamed up to beat the same two in No. 1 doublesĀ  6-3, 6-1.
No. 4 Sophia Gouhin lost to Emma Pound 6-0, 7-5.

The Lady Seahawks’ (12-3 overall, 3-1 region) singles wins were No. 3 Emma Springs over Catalina Carr 6-4, 6-2, and No. 4 Carolyn Gore sweeping Lizzie Farmer 6-0, 6-0. The No. 2 doubles team of Catherine Truluck and Katharine Woodard scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Catherine Lowe and Kaitlyn Krask.

The match all came down to the No. 1 doubles team of Jessie Dumas and Rachel Berkey losing a close one to Tolley Rice and Lindsey Costin 6-2, 5-7, 11-9. Costin also won her No. 5 singles match by tiebreaker, edging Elisabeth Spielvogel 7-6, 2-6, 10-3. Dumas lost 6-0, 6-0 to Tolley in No. 1 singles and Berkey fell 6-4, 6-4 to Sarah Elliott in No. 2 singles.
