Boys Hoops: Tigers make playoffs; Saints win tourney

conhoops-15layupcfFriday night’s regular-season finale between rivals Carolina Forest and Conway had a lot more at stake than neighborhood bragging rights. The winner would move on, and the loser would go home.

In jeopardy of missing the postseason following a 10-0 start, the visiting Tigers (15-8 overall, 5-5 Region 6-4A) used a strong second-half surge to beat the Panthers 63-47 and keep their season alive.

Conway trailed 13-7 after one quarter of play and needed an old-fashioned three-point play by Christian Jeffords to take a narrow halftime lead at 19-17. But Conway caught fire in the third period, using a 26-6 run to break open a tight game.

Jeffords led all scorers with 36 points, accounting for nearly half of the Tigers’ total. Conway will travel to Irmo on Wednesday for the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.

* Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach 68, Florence Christian 43: The Saints earned their 20th win and claimed the SCISA Region 3-2A tournament championship in Friday’s region title game.

CAMB scored a convincing victory on the Eagles’ home court behind Michael Green’s 17 points and Jaylen Johnson’s 11. The Saints (20-4) await word on their first-round playoff draw and are in line to earn a No. 1 seed.
