Hoops: CF, Socastee, SJ win tournament openers

The Carolina Forest High girls basketball team needed a little time to shake the first-game jitters in Monday night’s season-opener in the Sand & Hoops Classic. It only took a few minutes.

The Lady Panthers blew out Georgetown 66-46 behind an impressive season debut by Alexis Tomlin. The senior captain finished with 31 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks to lead the victory.

Tomlin got plenty of support from her teammates as Ellen Nardella hit 3 three-pointer and 13 points. Cheyenne Pyles-Moultrie controlled the game, dishing out 8 assists and 8 points.

Other Carolina Forest scorers were Aubrey Bowen with 5, Carly Skolsky with 4 points, Gabby Giracello and Winter Winfree with 2 points each and Jordan Martin with 1 point.

The Panthers play in the championship game Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against host Socastee, which defeated Waccamaw 61-25 in the nightcap. Socastee’s Marta Galindez led all scorers with 16 points. Teammates Jermisha Moss andMae Mae Arnold added 9 apiece, and Haley Altman and Mariah Leinbach each chipped in 8.

Inlet Invitational

* St. James defeated Carvers Bay 45-30 in Monday night’s first round of the Inlet Invitational to advance to Tuesday’s championship game.

The Lady Sharks got 12 points apiece from Ilenne De Los Santos and Kendall Heidt, and Hunter Clapham also scored in double digits with 10. Maquenzie Schult had 7 points and Anna Wallace Lee added 4 points for St. James.

The Lady Sharks will host the title game at 7 :15 p.m. Tuesday against Dillon Christian, which defeated Aynor 43-18 in the other bracket.

Boys

* Freedom Christian 64, Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach 61: The Saints (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season in a narrow defeat to Freedom Christian Academy of Fayetteville, NC.

Mike Green scored 31 points, seven rebounds and four assists to lead the Saints, and Jaylen Johnson added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.
