Volleyball: Six local squads sweep their region debuts

nmbvoilley-block2The Myrtle Beach High volleyball team opened Region 7-3A play Tuesday with a 3-0 sweep over visiting Wilson.

The Lady Seahawks (7-1 overall, 1-0 region) won by scores of 25-7, 25-9 and 25-11 to open defense of their region title.

Myrtle Beach was led by Emily Wunder with six kills, and teammate Darby Sheets ruled the service line with eight aces.

* Christian Academy 2-2, Pee Dee Academy 0-0: The Lady Saints won a doubleheader over the Lady Lions in a make-up for a previously postponed match.

Christian Academy won the first match 25-22, 25-16 and the second match 25-19, 25-16. Natalia Antonucci had 17 kills and Natalie Markley had 30 assists in the two matches combined.

* Socastee 3, Sumter 0: The Lady Braves won their Region 6-4A opener over the Lady Gamecocks 25-17, 25-11 and 25-11.

Socastee’s Katelynn Hine had 23 points and also add 21 assists, Megan Faris served 16 points, and Mary D Guest and Dale Rogers both had 10 kills each. Eden Dukes added six kills.

The Lady Braves play another league conference game Thursday at South Florence.

* North Myrtle Beach 3, Lake City 0: The Lady Chiefs kicked off the Region 7-3A schedule Tuesday with a 3-0 sweep over visiting Lake City.

Maddie Roy led the North Myrtle Beach with 21 assists and the Lady Chiefs combined for 28 aces and 28 kills.

* Carolina Forest 3, West Florence 0: The Lady Panthers opened up Region 6-4A play with a sweep over West Florence, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-12.

The Lady Panthers (9-0 overall, 1-0 region) were led by Ellissa Small with 10 kills and 12 service points, Alexis Tomlin with 10 kills, and Kenzlie Andresen chipped with seven kills and three block.

Carolina Forest travels to Sumter on Thursday.

* St. James 3, Georgetown 0: The Lady Sharks easily won their Region 7-3A debut by sweeping the Lady Bulldogs.
