Volleyball Wrapup: CAMB, Socastee knock off rivals

sjvolley-13Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach completed a season sweep against St. James on Wednesday with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Lady Sharks.

After knocking off St. James last week, the Lady Saints (6-2) had their hands full early as the Lady Sharks built a 24-19 in the opening set. St. James had set point but saw CAMB rally off five straight points to tie it up.

St. James had set point against but the Lady Saints won three straight points to clinch it and set the tone for the rest of the match. CAMB won by scores of 27-25, 25-20, and 25-17. Natalia Antonucci had her season-best 16 kills, followed by Mags Grafe with 10. Claudia Markley had 30 assists.

* Socastee 3, Myrtle Beach 1: The visiting Lady Braves took three out of four sets from the Lady Seahawks, jumping out with wins of 25-14 and 25-20. Myrtle Beach answered with a 25-22 win in the third but Socastee closed it out with a 25-21 win.

Socastee’s Dale Rogers led the Lady Braves on offense with 23 kills and fiveaces. Eden Dukes had eight kills along with two solo blocks, and Megan Faris also had two solo blocks. On defense, setter Katelynn Hine led the team in assists, and libero Mary D. Guest had 26 digs.

The Lady Seahawks (1-2) were led by Gracie Davis’ eight kills, and Darby Sheets and Maggie Slabinski had six kills apiece. Sheets also had four aces as the Lady Seahawks play host to region rival Lake City on Thursday.

* Carolina Forest swept another trimatch on Wednesday, defeating Waccamaw 2-0 (25-9, 25-16) and Johnsonville 2-0 (25-12, 25-20) to improve to 9-0 on the season.

Leading the Lady Panthers in the opener was Cassie Runyon with nine kills, Kenzlie Andersen with seven kills, and Lexi Watts with eight service points. Runyon also added eight kills in the nightcap and Alexis Tomlin posted 10 service points and five kills.
