Week 3 of the NFL should be a blockbuster

After two weeks of the NFL season, we now know that the 49ers, Ravens, Patriots, Falcons, Broncos, and with the win last week, the Packers are really good. Big surprise.

We can add in the Eagles as long as Michael Vick can play at a high level. Oh yeah, the Chargers are fairly solid too. The Cardinals are surprising everyone and Seattle looks surprisingly solid.

So far it’s all playing out according to script, which is why I am making this week’s picks according to some famous movie lines::

* Paul Crewe from “The Longest Yard”: “The most important thing to remember is to protect your quarterback — ME!” That had to be the words to describe the Rams-Bears game. It seemed as though Jay Cutler was running for his life against Green Bay defense a week ago. … Bears win by 3.

* J.T. Hawkins Jr. from “Facing the Giants”: “It don’t have to look pretty, it don’t have to look smooth. It can look like a dying duck as long as it goes through the goal.” This is the perfect quote for the Jets-Dolphins game where almost anything could happen and probably will. … Jets win by 3.

* Carl Spackler from “Caddyshack”: “He’s on his final hole. He’s about 455 yards away, he’s gonna hit about a 2 iron, I think…” A perfect line for the Dallas-Tampa Bay game because one would figure about 455 yards of offense will happen in this big game. … Dallas wins by 2.

* Tony D’Amato from the movie “Any Given Sunday”: “I don’t know what to say, really. Three minutes to the biggest battle of our professional lives. All comes down to today, and either, we heal as a team, or we’re gonna crumble. Inch by inch, play by play. Until we’re finished.” Jacksonville will have to take each run yard by yard now that MJD is back when they travel to Indy. … Colts win by 7.

* Squints from “The Sandlot”: “Where did your old man get that ball?” Smalls: “I don’t know. Some lady gave it to him. She even signed her name on it. Some lady named Ruth. Baby Ruth.” All: Babe Ruth?” A perfect quote for the Bills-Browns game because CJ Spiller may have not always been a name you know unless you are from USC or a Clemson fan, but he is becoming a household name for Buffalo. … Bills wins by 5.

* Norman Dale from “Hoosiers”: “If you put your effort and concentration into playing to your potential, to be the best that you can be, I don’t care what the scoreboard says. At the end of the game, in my book, we’re gonna be winners.” This is so true about the Washington-Bengals game. No matter who wins, we will be watching RG3 for the Redskins. … Redskins win by 6.

* Coach Boone from “Remember the Titans”: “In Greek mythology, the Titans were greater even than the gods. They ruled their universe with absolute power. Well, that football field out there, that’s our universe. Let’s rule it like titans.” After falling to 0-2, the Tennessee Titans need to get back to its power running game with Chris Johnson against the Lions. … Lions win by 10.

* Jack Lengyel from “We are Marshall”: “You understand me? How you play today, from this moment on is how you will be remembered. This is your opportunity to rise from these ashes and grab glory. We are … (New Orleans)! The Saints need to play much better to represent the Bayou against the Chiefs. … Saints win by 7.

* Paco from “The Waterboy”: “Look at Bobby tackle. I haven’t seen a tackle like that since Joe Montana.” Walter: “Joe Montana was a quarterback, you idiot.” Paco: “I said Joe Mantegna.” San Francisco may not have Joe Montana and Jerry Rice anymore, but Alex Smith and the 49ers defense has them as a powerhouse again going taking on the Vikings. … 49ers win by 9.

* Jerry Maguire from “Jerry Maquire”: “Show me the money!” What better way to describe the Arizona-Philadelphia game as Rod Tidwell from the movie played for Arizona and to get to the next level, the Cardinals would have to get by the Eagles. … Philly wins by 4.

* Rocky Balboa from “Rocky”: “Yo Adrian!” This is a perfect line to describe the Falcons, as they will look for the knockout punch against the high-flying Charger offense in San Diego. … Atlanta wins by 7.

* The Voice from “Field of Dreams”: “If you build it, he will come.” It is true that after John Elway had built the Denver Broncos into a Super Bowl Champion, he then came back to take over as the Executive Vice President. The Broncos were able to get the former Super Bowl Champion Peyton Manning to come to Denver. Now they are headed to back home in what should be an offensive showdown between Manning and the Texans on Sunday. … Broncos win by 1.

* Coach Yoast from “Remember the Titans”: “All right, now, I don’t want them to gain ANOTHER YARD! YOU BLITZ…ALL…NIGHT! If they cross the line of scrimmage, I’m gonna take every last one of you out! You make sure they remember, forever, the night they played the Titans!” In this case, it should be remember the Steelers, as their defense looks to stifle any hopes that the Raiders may have late Sunday. … Steelers win by 8.

* Dan Devine from “Rudy”: “No one, and I mean no one, comes into our house and pushes us around.” This must pertain to the Ravens as they play host to New England on Sunday night with AFC dominance on the line. This should be the game of the week. … Baltimore wins by 3.

* Shane Falco from “The Replacements”: “I wish I could say something classy and inspirational, but that just wouldn’t be our style. Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory…lasts forever.” This describes the Green Bay at Seattle game. Aaron Rodgers will look to use its own offensive style to try and leave Emerald City with a 2-1 start to 2012 on Monday night. … Packers win by 7.

And as Forrest Gump said, “That’s all I got to say about that.”
