Whitney Young wins, faces Bishop O’Connell for title

Whitney Young scored a 67-43 victory over Scott County to advance to its first-ever Beach Ball Classic championship game.

The Dolphins will meet Bishop O’Connell in the title game on Monday night as both programs look to capture its first BBC Championship.

Whitney Young (Chicago, IL; 9-1) trailed only briefly during the first half and took control in the second half, leading by as many as 24 in cruising to the win.  Scott County (Georgetown, KY; 10-3) played the game without leading scorer Quin Richardson, who was out with a hip injury suffered during Friday’s quarterfinal.

Whitney Young was again led by the junior trio of L.J. Peak (22 points), Paul White (17 points), and Jahlil Okafor (17 points).  The trio is averaging 58.4 points per game during the Beach Ball Classic.

Scott County was paced by Trent Gilbert’s 15 points.

Bishop O’Connell scored a 60-39 victory over Hudson Catholic to earn the program’s second trip to the championship game of the Beach Ball Classic.

The Knights (Arlington, VA; 11-0) last made the BBC Championship game a decade ago in 2002 when they lost to McQuaid Jesuit (Rochester, NY).  This is Bishop O’Connell’s seventh trip to Myrtle Beach, SC, for the Beach Ball Classic.

Bishop O’Connell never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 22 points in the second half.  Romelo Trimble led the Knights with 20 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.  Leroy Butts added 18 points and nine rebounds for Bishop O’Connell.

The Knights outrebounded Hudson Catholic 32-16 and held the Hawks to just a 34.2 field goal percentage.

Hudson Catholic (Jersey City, NJ; 6-1) was paced by Reggie Cameron’s 15 points.
