Third team selections include offensive lineman Brock Hoffman, defensive tackle Ja’ree Tolbert, linebacker Silas Kelly, safety Fitz Wattley and punter Evan Rabon.

Hoffman anchored the Chanticleer offensive line as a true freshman last season. In fact, he was part of an offensive line that was the youngest in the nation the second half of the season.

Tolbert started all 12 games last fall and tallied 33 tackles, including 3.5 for losses with 1.5 sacks.

Kelly was an honorable mention All-Sun Belt pick as a freshman last fall. He ranked third on the team in tackles (75) despite missing the Texas State game due to injury and his 6.8 tackles per game ranked 16th in the Sun Belt. He led the team in tackles twice (eight at UAB and 11 at ULM) and was credited with nine tackles in his collegiate debut versus UMass.

Watley had a breakout season last fall as he made the move from linebacker to safety. He was second on the team in tackles (82) while leading the team in interceptions (3).

Rabon was an honorable mention All-Sun Belt last fall after a record-setting season. He averaged 43.16 yards per punt to shatter the CCU single-season record. In fact, he was the first Chant to average over 40 yards per punt for a season. He was the Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week twice (at Appalachian State and at Idaho) and the team’s Special Teams MVP for the UMass, Texas State and Arkansas games.

Four Chanticleers were named Athlon’s fourth team, including running back Marcus Outlow, offensive lineman Trey Carter, corner back Anthony Chesley and kick returner Ky’Jon Tyler.

Outlow played 10 games last fall, sharing the backfield with all-conference selection Osharmar Abercrombie. Outlow was second on the team with 279 rushing yards and averaged 4.6 yards per carry.

Carter was an honorable mention All-Sun Belt honoree last fall. As a redshirt freshman last fall, Carter led the team with 69 knockdown blocks (second-most on the team for 2017 was 45). He was additionally the team’s top-graded offensive line six times in 12 games.

Chesley has been CCU’s top corner each of the last two years. He was fifth on the team in tackles (55) with 2.0 tackles for losses while leading the team with eight pass breakups. He additionally led the team with eight PBU in 2016 while adding 2.5 tackles for losses and an interception.

Tyler was the 11th Chant with at least 1,000 all-purpose yards in a season (1,133). He returned 29 kicks — to tie CCU single-season record — for an average of 23.6 yards in 2017, including an 88-yarder at ULM to set the CCU record for longest non-scoring play. Tyler also had a 50-yard kick return versus Troy and tallied 152 kick return yards (5 att.) to rank 5th on CCU single-game list.
