Wrestling: MB, NMB win, set up region-title finale

The Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach wrestling teams scored big wins on Thursday, and now both teams turn their attention to each other in a showdown for the Region 7-4A championship.

The Seahawks continued their turnaround season with a hard-fought 39-30 victory over host St. James. They beat the Sharks, the longtime powerhouse in the region, and now set their sights on the rival Chiefs on Wednesday.

North Myrtle Beach stepped out of region competition Thursday to tangle with Aynor and Timberland. The Chiefs defeated the Blue Jackets 60-12, and downed the Wolves 53-21 for the tri-match sweep.

North Myrtle Beach’s Tanner Collins earned pins at both of his matches in the 145-pound class. In the match of the day, Aynor’s Drake Carroll won a 10-8 overtime decision over Stephon Wilson in a showdown of a pair of individual state title contenders.

The Seahawks visit the Chiefs on Wednesday to determine the region crown.
