X-rays negative on Boyd’s hip but future status up in air

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd exited Saturday’s game against Boston College with a hip injury and is questionable for next week’s game against Maryland.

Boyd was hit on the left leg by lineman Max Holloway during the third quarter. Boyd attempted to regain his footing, but instead rolled to the ground as trainers came out to assist him.

The sophomore was helped from the field while holding his left leg in the air. He went to the locker room for X-rays and finished with 282 yards and two touchdowns – one passing, one rushing – on the day.

X-rays were negative for structural damage to the hip but Boyd is scheduled to undergo an MRI to determine whether he will be able to play against the Terrapins.

Freshman Cole Stoudt replaced Boyd, who has thrown for 15 touchdowns against two interceptions for the Tigers this season. Stoudt went 6-for-10 for 37 yards as the Tigers posted a 36-14 win.

Update: Tajh Boyd has been upgraded to probable for the Tigers game with Maryland on Saturday. Head Coach Dabo Swinney said on his Sunday media teleconference that Boyd was much improved on Sunday when he was examined by Clemson Head Athletic Trainer Danny Poole.

“Tajh was feeling much better today,” said Swinney. “We really expect him to be back at practice full speed on Tuesday and be ready to play against Maryland.”
