4A Girls Playoffs: Big win keeps Seahawks at home

The Myrtle Beach girls basketball team had to battle to get past visiting Orangeburg-Wilkinson in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs on Friday, but the struggle was well worth reward.

Not only did the Lady Seahawks down the Bruinettes 36-28 to advance to the Class 4A Lower State semifinals, but they also earned the right to host the game when top-seeded Stall lost to second-seeded AC Flora. Myrtle Beach will welcome the Lady Falcons on Monday.

Myrtle Beach’s defense dominated the first half, limiting O-W to only two field goals. But the Lady Seahawks struggled on offense too and led only 16-8 at halftime. They hit a clutch 11 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to take control.

Myrtle Beach’s Ivy Collins led the Seahawks with 13 points while making 8 of 8 fouls shots (six in the fourth quarter). Janell Horton tallied 10 points and Asia Smith scored 8 to help Myrtle Beach reach the third round.
