Baseball: Seahawks down Panthers; Braves rally late

The Myrtle Beach baseball team exploded for eight runs in the first inning and cruised the rest of the way to defeat rival Carolina Forest 10-5 on Wednesday.

Myrtle Beach’s Jackson Thomas led the Seahawks with three hits and four RBIs, and teammates Luke Edwards and Jonah McElheney had two hits apiece. Edwards also had a pair of RBIs.

Myrtle Beach’s Tyler Burgess and Chandler Keck combined on the five-hitter and tallied seven total strikeouts. The Seahawks return to region action Friday against visiting St. James.

Carolina Forest’s Max Ryerson drove in three of the Panthers’ five runs. The Panthers host South Florence on Friday.

* Socastee 15, Boys Latin (MD) 3: The Braves blasted the visitors from Maryland by a dozen runs – most of them coming in the final two frames.

Clinging to a 4-1 lead through five frames, the Braves erupted for four in the sixth and seven in the seventh to run away with the win.

Shane Sullivan led the Braves with three hits and Ethan Brekke drove in four runs to power the offense. Maddux Smith pitched five innings to earn the win.
