Beach Ball Classic, Day 4/5: CA’s Green leaves his mark

This week’s Beach Ball Classic has been a memorable one for Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach senior Michael Green, capped by his victory in the 3-Point Contest on Saturday night at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

Green repeatedly ripped the net to knock off fellow sharpshooters from around the country. He was joined by Westchester (CA) Slam-Dunk champion Kaelen Allen as the top honorees on a night loaded with hoops stars.

Green scored his 2,000th career points in the Saints’ 69-52 victory over Class 5A public school Socastee on Friday. His 3-point win marked the second consecutive year a Grand Strand area player to claim the honor. Myrtle Beach’s Robert Swanson won it last season.

Westchester (CA) and Scott County (KY) will meet in the championship game of the Beach Ball Classic on Monday after winning their semifinal games in thrilling fashion.

Westchester pulled out a 47-45 victory over North Crowley (TX) in the nightcap, while Scott County claimed a 69-62 win over North Little Rock (AR).

Kaelen Allen led the Comets with 14 points and teammates Jeremiah Turley and Jordan Brinson scored 12 points apiece. North Crowley’s Isaiah Crawford scored a game-high 21. Scott County got a 31-point effort from Glenn Covington. North Little Rock’s Shawn Fudge tallied 21 points.

In earlier close games, St. Edward (OH) edged North Mecklenberg (NC) 59-57, Florence (MS) slipped past University (WV) 58-54, Jack Yates (TX) lost 98-87 to Bishop O’Connell (VA), and Cox Mill (NC) got past Archbishop Stepinac in overtime, 90-77.

In Friday’s first game, Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach defeated Socastee 69-52. Michael Green scored 26 points and Davis Guyton had 21 for the Saints. Socastee’s Jay Williams scored a team-high 14 points and Jonathan Wright and Marcus Moore scored 10 points apiece. Moore also had 10 rebounds to record a double-double.

Sunday will feature the slam dunk and 3-point shooting contests at 6:30 p.m. Monday will be championship day with the main event set for 7:30 p.m. All the action is held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
