Boys Hoops: MB wins out, forces NMB rubber match

mbhoops-12sjAfter playing more than 40 combined games, including two against one another, the Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach boys basketball teams will meet one time to settle the Region 7-3A championship.

The No.1-ranked Seahawks (18-6 overall, 9-1 region) looked impressive in Monday night’s 84-63 victory over visiting Georgetown to make the two-way tie with the No. 5-ranked Chiefs for the region title official.

Myrtle Beach managed to get every player plenty of playing time in the win, with Brooks Swanson scoring a game-high 15, Anthony McNeil tallying 11 and Solomon Cooper and Tysheme Lewis adding 10 apiece.

Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Conway High with the top seed on the line. Tickets will go on sale at 6:15 p.m. at Conway for the expected sellout at the neutral site.

* Wilson 74, St. James 48: The Sharks (7-17, 2-8) closed a disappointing season in Florence, falling to the Tigers in a showdown for the fourth and final playoff spot.

St. James was led by Donivan Phillips’ 14 points and Jackson Hurston’s nine.
