The Myrtle Beach High boys soccer team has featured a balanced offensive attack for most of the season. But playoff time has Adolpho Aguilar time for the No. 1-ranked Seahawks.
Aguilar scored both goals in Myrtle Beach’s 2-0 victory over visiting Aiken in Saturday’s Lower State semifinal, giving him five in a row and a total of seven goals in three postseason games for the senior.
With 15 minutes remaining in a scoreless first half, Aguilar broke the ice and gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead at intermission. He struck again to break open a hotly contested with 15 minutes left in the second half on an assist by Elijah Rice.
Myrtle Beach goalkeeper David Caraker made four saves and the Seahawks defense held solid throughout the contest. It was the 12th consecutive win for Myrtle Beach, which must travel to Hilton Head Island for the Class 3A Lower State final on Tuesday. Hilton Head ended North Myrtle Beach’s playoff run by a 4-0 score in the other semifinal.
* Socastee 1, Bluffton 0: The No. 9-ranked Braves got another shutout performance by goalkeeper Cole Renfrow and a game-winning goal by Chris Matlashewski to beat the Bobcats in the Class 4A Lower State semifinals.
Socastee advances to the Lower State championship game on Tuesday and will play host to River Bluff. The winner moves on to the Class 4A state title match.
