Bracey’s decision gives NMB victory over rival Seahawks

In the biggest match of the night against its biggest rival, North Myrtle Beach’s fate was determined by its biggest wrestler.

With the Chiefs trailing Myrtle Beach 32-31 entering the final match of the Thursday’s showdown, North Myrtle Beach heavyweight Jonathan Bracey battled to a 4-2 decision over Amir Oukada to give the Chiefs a 34-32 victory.

The entire match was nip and tuck on the night with six matches coming down to decisions. North Myrtle Beach won five of them, proving to be the difference in the heated rivalry.

Myrtle Beach got pins from Taylor Damewood (106), Jonathan Iseman (113), Daniel Miller (145) and Joseph Desjardins (152), while North Myrtle Beach earned falls by Steven Small (120), Ronnie Johnson (132), Tanner Fallenz (138).

The rest of the matches came down to hard-fought decisions, with the exception of the Chiefs forfeiting the 220-pound class to give the Seahawks the lead headed into the final match.

Myrtle Beach’s Nick Sylvestri (126) scored a 19-14 judgment over William Lewis, but the next four decisions went the Chiefs’ way.

North Myrtle Beach’s Eric Baker (160) earned a 3-1 judgment over Tevin Cheatham; Mikhaail Vlahas (170) took a medical decision over Eddie Rodriguez; Hampton Harmon claimed an 8-3 verdict over Miguel Mejia; and Gerodie Graham captured a 4-1 decision over David Armijo to give the Chiefs a slight lead.

But the Seahawks moved back ahead when Ariel Elia (220) won by forfeit, setting the stage for Bracey and Okuada to do battle with the meet’s outcome on the line. Bracey jumped on top and held on to get the individual and team victory.
