CAC qualifies 27 for states after Last-Chance success

cac-palmlastchancePalmetto Aquatics (PALM) of Columbia hosted their Last-Chance Summer Invite meet this past weekend on the campus of the University of South Carolina.

With the Long-Course State Championship meet approaching (July 21-24), the PALM Summer Invite was the last chance for swimmers to qualify for the State meet and/or improve their seed times for the Championship.

The Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC) sent 14 swimmers to the meet.  Combined, these swimmers posted personal best times in 57% of their events.  And, six new state qualifying times were posted.

Top performers for the weekend included Tyler Eldred (4 TOP 3 finishes), Taylor Steele 3 TOP 5 finishes and new team records in 100 Breast and 200 Breast), and Ryan Eldred (pair of 4th place finishes and 4 other TOP 8’s).  In total, 8 CAC swimmers combined for 31 TOP TEN finishes, including:

• Tyler Eldred:  1st in 50 Free; 2nd in 100 Breast; 3rd in 100 Free; 3rd in 200 IM; 4th in 200 Breast; 7th in 100 Fly.
• Michael Paglio:  2nd in 100 Back; 5th in 200 Back; 9th in 200 IM; 10th in 200 Free.
• Taylor Steele:  3rd in 100 Breast; 4th in 200 Breast; 5th in 50 Free; 6th in 200 IM; 10th in 100 Free.
• Ryan Eldred:  4th in 100 Back; 4th in 100 Fly; 5th in 200 IM; 6th in 200 Free; 8th in 400 Free; 8th in 50 Free.
• Summer Ratley:  5th in 200 Fly; 9th in 100 Fly.
• Jenn Paul:  6th in 200 Free; 9th in 200 Fly.
• David Zevgolis:  7th in 200 IM; 9th in 200 Breast; 9th in 400 Free; 9th in 100 Breast.
• Saman Vitharana:  8th in 200 Free; 10th in 50 Free.

Over this long-course season, 27 CAC swimmers have qualified for States (to swim a combined 102 events), including: Mason Bryan, John Grey Crosby, Kennedy Drew, Ryan Eldred, Tyler Eldred, Andre Fachin, Lizzy Gatley, Carly Belle Jackson, Catherine Jackson, Will Jackson, Sean King, Maggie Langdale, Olivia McGonigal, Casey Mitchell, Jordyn O’Dell; Karly O’Dell; Michael Paglio; Jenn Paul; Summer Ratley, Taylor Steele, Ana Wolff, Kater Wolff, Saman Vitharana; Lex Whalen; Peyton Widner; Tom Young, and David Zevgolis.
