CAC swimmers make big splash in Grand Prix finale

CAC-Grand Prix Championship Meet March 2017Over this short-course swim season, the Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC) has participated in five Grand Prix meets in Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and Mount Pleasant. This past weekend, the Championship Meet of the Grand Prix series was held at the outdoor pool of the I’On Club in Mount Pleasant.

To be eligible to compete, a swimmer must not have a state qualifying time for a particular event (such as the 50 yard freestyle).  There were 125 swimmers in the water, including 25 CAC swimmers.   For the weekend, 20 CAC swimmers (80% of team) combined to produce 65 TOP 6 finishes, including 6 wins (Morgan Young, Logan Mendieta, Cameron Bonham, Christian Patricio, and Olivia Bailey), and a total of 33 TOP 3 (i.e., Podium) finishes.  Here’s a look at TOP 6 finishes (in the 6-lane pool):

• Morgan Young: 1st in 200 Fly; 2nd in 100 Fly; 3rd in 200 Free; 3rd in 500 Free; 5th in 100 Free; and 6th in 50 Free.
• Logan Mendieta:  1st in 50 Breast; 1st in 50 Back; 2nd in 25 Breast; 2nd in 25 Free; 3rd in 25 Back; 3rd in 50 Free; and 3rd in 25 Fly.
• Cameron Bonham:  1st in 500 Free; 2nd in 200 IM; 3rd in 200 Free; and 4th in 100 Breast.
• Christian Patricio:  1st in 200 Fly; 3rd in 200 IM; 3rd in 100 Breast; and 4th in 200 Free.
• Olivia Bailey:  1st in 100 Fly; 3rd in 100 Free; and 5th in 100 IM.
• Joy Murawski: 2nd in 200 Back; 4th in 100 Back; 6th in 100 Breast; and 6th in 100 Free.
• Alan Levy:  2nd in 50 Back; 4th in 50 Breast; 6th in 100 IM; 6th in 100 Free; and 6th in 100 Breast.
• Chloe Stampfle:  2nd in 50 Fly; 2nd in 100 Back; 5th in 200 Back; and 5th in 100 Breast.
• Michael Paglio:  2nd in 100 Fly; 4th in 100 Free; and 5th in 200 Breast.
• Allen Poston:  2nd in 200 Back; and 4th in 200 Breast.
• Marissa Patricio:  2nd in 200 Fly.
• Camila Sheppard: 3rd in 100 Fly; 3rd in 100 Breast; 3rd in 200 Breast; 5th in 200 Free; and 5th in 50 Free.
• Chandra Robideaux:  3rd in 50 Fly; 6th in 50 Back; 6th in 100 Back; and 6th in 100 Breast.
• Hayden Levy: 3rd in 25 Free; 3rd in 50 Back; 4th in 50 Free; and 5th in 25 Back.
• Anna Satterfield:  3rd in 100 Breast; and 4th in 50 Free.
• Adelyn Barbour:  4th in 50 Breast.
• Haley Boudreau: 4th in 100 Fly.
• Mason Alford:  5th in 50 Fly; 6th in 100 Back; and 6th in 100 Breast.
• Abbey Boudreau:  6th in 200 Free.
• Alexandra Damonte:  6th in 500 Free.

Over the next two weeks, CAC will have swimmers at Age Group Sectionals and Senior Sectionals in Greensboro, NC.  CAC will then host the 2017 Palmetto Championships Lower State meet the weekend of March 22-24 at the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic Center.  As April arrives, swimmers enter long-course season (i.e., Olympic distance of 50 meter pools).   CAC will compete in long-course meets in Charleston, Columbia, Greensboro, and Rock Hill, with all meets leading to the long-course state championship meet during July at the University of South Carolina Natatorium.
