CAC swimmers post top times at Spring Sectional

The Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC) sent its fastest senior swimmers (ages 15 and up) to compete in the Speedo ESSZ Spring Senior Sectional Meet in Cary, NC this weekend.

The Eastern Section of the South Zone (ESSZ) includes teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Mississippi. Swimmers from 59 teams were entered in this meet.

This was a very fast and competitive meet, complete with swimmers posting meet record times, national qualifying times, and at least one American record time. Top CAC performers for the weekend include:

* Taylor Steele was 3rd in the 100 Breast.

* Yuri Costa was 6th in the 50 Free.

* Ian Morgan was 6th in the 1,650 Free (The Mile).

* Casey Mitchell was 8th in the 1,650 Free (The Mile) and 10th in the 1,000 Free.

The boy’s 800 Free Relay Team of Ian Morgan, John Grey Crosby, Ryan Eldred, and Casey Mitchell finished in 8th place. While doing so, they set a new CAC team record and qualified their relay team for the NCSA Junior National Meet. Over the weekend, Harrison Clinton, Ryan Eldred, Casey Mitchell, and Ian Morgan also competed in at least one Consolation final.

This year’s Senior Sectional Team included: Harrison Clinton, Yuri Costa, John Grey Crosby, Ryan Eldred, Tyler Eldred, Olivia McGonigal, Casey Mitchell, Ian Morgan, Christian Patricio, and Taylor Steele. This coming weekend, Kayla Aguilar, Joe Guthinger, Molly Tate, and Saman Vitharana will represent CAC at the Age Group Sectional meet (for ages 8-14) at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center in Atlanta, GA. The following week, Harrison Clinton, John Grey Crosby, Ryan Eldred, Casey Mitchell, Ian Morgan, and Taylor Steele are all qualified to compete in the NCSA Junior National Meet in Orlando, FL. CAC swimmers will compete in 5 boy’s relay races in addition to individual events.

With only a few short-course meets remaining, Harrison Clinton, Casey Mitchell, Ian Morgan, and Taylor Steele are also qualified to compete in the USA Swimming Futures Championship meet in Greensboro, NC in August. The Futures Championship meet is best described as a ‘stepping stone’ meet between USA Swimming’s Senior Sectional and Junior National meets.
