Local swimmers Will Jackson and Casey Mitchell of the Coastal Aquatic Club (CAC) were selected to participate in South Carolina Swimming’s annual Select Camp over the weekend at the LTP Swimming Complex in Mount Pleasant.
The invitation-only camp brings together the top qualifying swimmers from across the state for two days of in-water and dry-land coaching and training. To qualify for the camp, a swimmer must have been ranked in the top 10 for males and females in age groups 11-12 and 13-14 using their IMX scores, as calculated by USA Swimming.
USA Swimming developed the I.M. Xtreme (IMX) Challenge to allow swimmers to track their overall performance in their age groups. As the “IM” name implies (swimmers use IM to represent the “individual medley”), a swimmer’s IMX score is calculated after they have competed in each event at least once during that swim season.
The 11-12 year olds compete in the 400 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Butterfly, and 200 IM. The 13-14 year olds race in the 400 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, and 200 and 400 IM.
High school swimming continues across South Carolina for the next two weeks with the State Championship meets scheduled for Oct. 10, 2015 for public schools (Columbia, SC) and private/independent schools (Augusta, GA). After that, youth swimmers return to more active club-related swimming schedules and competitions.
CAC will host its 7th annual Coastal Classic meet Oct. 23-25 at the Pepper Geddings Recreation Center in Myrtle Beach.
