The youth movement in local girls golf continued Monday in a pair of matches involving Grand Strand teams.
Carolina Forest seventh-grader Kayla Parsons and North Myrtle Beach freshman Madison Elliott shot 38s to tie for medalist honors on Myrtle Beach National’s South Course front nine.
Parsons led the Lady Panthers to a 162-199 victory on their home course over the Lady Chiefs. Teammates Jackie Brown (40), Jamie Karl (41) were third and fourth best on the day, and Samantha Schoener and Elizabeth Snyder Mounts (43s) rounded out Carolina Forest’s foursome. Kyle Chandler (49), Megan Woods (55) and Erin Hershelman (57) contributed to the scorecard for the Lady Chiefs.
Meanwhile, on a windy day at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club, St. James scored a 178-207 win over Myrtle Beach on the Lady Seahawks’ home links. Sophomores Kelli Smith of St. James and Jasmine Chestnut of Myrtle Beach shared medalist honors with identical 43s on the front nine.
The Lady Sharks used a balanced attack to earn the region victory, with Smith Knaffle (44), Ashley Anderson (45) and Steely Hays (46) filled out the St. James scorecard. Myrtle Beach’s Miranda Russell (53), Boni Belle Brooks (55) and Riley Hinde (56) led the Lady Seahawks.
