CCU women’s relay team takes bronze at VT Invitational

The Coastal Carolina women’s Track & Field team took part in the final day of the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday in Blackburg, Va.

Coastal ran well in the distance medley with a third place showing. Letitia Saayman, Christian Johnson, Christina Davis and Sophie Perry completed the race in 12:15.70, setting a new school record. The previous school record was 12:18.91, which was set in 2004.

Kierra Gabe also helped lead the way for the Chanticleers posting a sixth place showing in the high jump after clearing 1.60 meters (5-03.00).

Also posting a sixth place finish was the 4×400 meter relay team. Santresa Jamison, Sharmaine Barnes, Erica Peake and Qwontajah Thompson completed the race in 3:52.51.

During the women’s shot put Shantelle Patterson recorded a throw of 12.60 meters (41-04.25) to take eighth place, while Naomi Atkins finished 12th with a mark of 12.02 meters (39-05.25).

Erica Peake placed 17th overall in the long jump with a mark of 5.34 meters (17-06.25) and Darriale Henley jumped 5.33 meters (17-06.00) to take 18th.

The Chanticleers will next compete at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C. on Friday, Jan. 27 through Saturday, Jan. 28.
