CF boys finish second, MB girls net third at CCU meet

The Carolina Forest boys finished second and the Myrtle Beach girls took third place as the top local finishers at the Coastal Carolina University cross country meet on Saturday.

Waccamaw swept the event, but the Panthers (47 points) were close on the heels of the Warriors (31), who claimed four top-10 finishers. Carolina Forest’s Jacob Dulson (18:02) was sixth, Michael Moore (18:12) was seventh, and Jonathan Penter (18:48) was ninth. Austin Smith (19:06) was 11th and Nick Mohr (19:14) finished 14th to round out the Panthers’ top five.

Myrtle Beach’s Tyler Flannelly (17:40) was the top local finisher with a fourth-place showing. He led the Seahawks to a fourth-place showing in the six-team event with 96 total points. Teammates Jake Desalvo (19:52) placed 19th, Curt Caudle (20:38) was 23rd, Jackson Hanvey (21:23) was 31st and Chancellor Fincher (21:41) was 34th to round of the Seahawks’ top five. They finished behind Palmetto Christian (86) and ahead of Georgetown (115) and Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach (188).

In girls action, Waccamaw scored a perfect score of 15 by posting the top-five team finishers, defeating runner-up Palmetto Christian (56) and third-place Myrtle Beach (79). Carolina Forest’s Brianna Hatfield (22:10) was the top local girls individual finisher with a seventh-place showing, but the Lady Panthers did not have enough runners to field a full squad.

Riley Massey led the Lady Seahawks (22:40) with a 10th-place finish, with teammates Sophia Sedeska (23:44) taking 18th, Olivia Hull (25:04) in 22nd, Samantha Murillo (25:47) in 28th, and Maris Kate Payseur (26:56) rounding out the Lady Seahawks’ top five. They defeated Georgetown (103) and CAMB (142).
