CF’s Glodack leads Tigers to shutout of No. 13 Chants

Carolina Forest product and Clemson goalkeeper had a happy homecoming in Sunday’s exhibition game against Coastal Carolina. The same cannot be said for the No. 13 Chanticleers.

Glodack made three saves and posted a shutout and he got plenty offensive support from his Tiger teammates en route to a 4-0 victory at the CCU Soccer Complex.

After a scoreless first half, Clemson’s Thomas McNamara scored two goals while teammates and sophomores Iain Smith and Kyle Fisher score one goal each.

“We got off to a slow start, but played better in the second half,” said Head Coach Mike Noonan.    “We have plenty to work on this week in preparation for our season opener. Chris Glodack played well in goal for us today.”

Clemson scored three goals in the initial 17 minutes of the second half and added a late goal to puncuate the scoring.

“We played well in the first half,” said Shaun Docking, the reigning Big South Coach of the Year. “We made changes to our lineup in the second half and tried guys out at different positions.

After battling 0-0 for 58-plus minutes, Smith put the visitors on the board at the 58:42 mark of play. Just over a minute later Fisher scored for the Tigers on a set piece. McNamara added goals in the 63rd and 82nd minutes to tally the final 4-0 score.

Clemson outshot Coastal, 11-9 overall and 9-3 in shots on goal. Sophomore keeper Devin Cook and senior Federico Bertele each played in net for the Chants, combining for five saves.

“Clemson is a very good team and they showed that this afternoon. By playing a pair of tough exhibition games this preseason, we have a good idea of where we are as a team entering the regular season next week.”

Coastal’s preseason work culminates with the regular-season opener at No. 18 Wake Forest on Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. as part of the Carolina Nike Classic. The Chants will also play at No. 4 North Carolina on Sept. 1 (7 p.m.) in its final match of the Carolina Nike Classic.
