CF’s Pieterse strikes gold; MB’s Montgomery second

Carolina Forest’s Lisa Pieterse captured the state championship in the girls 3200 meters with a time of 11 minutes, 17.53 seconds in Saturday’s Class 4A/3A state track and field championships at Lower Richland High.

Pieterse’s time was a full 10 seconds faster than her qualifying time last week, allowing her to edge JL Mann’s Laura Miller to the finish line by .20 seconds.

Carolina Forest teammate Christina Wright tied for third in the girls high jump with a leap of 5-foot-6, and Conway’s Raven Grant took fourth in the girls 200 meters with a time of 25.35.

In Class 3A, Myrtle Beach’s Jack Montgomery finished second in the boys 400 high hurdles with a time of 55.41 to help the Seahawks finish 25th in the team standings.

St. James’ Billy Krier captured fourth place in the boys 800 meters with a time of 1:59.13 to help the Sharks finish 22nd.

North Myrtle Beach’s Jaquella Livingston took seventh in the girls 400 hurdles 1:12.85 and sixth in the girls high jump with a leap of 5-0. Teammate Alexis Leonhardt took seventh with the same height. Livingston also was seventh in the girls long jump at 16-4, making her the only female to place in three individual events.

On Friday, the Socastee girls 4×800 relay team took fifth place . Kyleigh Adorno, Jill Dudley, Beka Booth and Crystal Shimer made up the Lady Braves’ team of runners, who posted a time of 10 minutes, 33.83 seconds.

In the Class 4A team scores, the Carolina Forest girls finished 12th and the Conway girls were 23rd. In Class 3A,  North Myrtle Beach was 19th and Socastee was 30th.
