Zach Remillard (3-for-4) and G.K. Young each hit their 12th home runs of the season, tying teammate Connor Owings for the Big South lead, while Billy Cooke was 4-for-5 with a home run as #23 Coastal Carolina claimed a 12-3 at Liberty Saturday afternoon.
Coastal (33-14, 15-2) clinches the series and will attempt the sweep versus the Flames (22-25, 7-10) on Sunday with first pitch set for 2 pm. In addition to getting the win, while not present for graduation exercises on campus, CCU seniors Remillard, Owings Alex Cunningham and David Parrett received their respective degrees from Coastal today.
Seth Lancaster also hit home runs as Coastal, which ranks second in the nation in home runs with 65, hit a total four round-trippers to mark the fifth time this season CCU has hit at least four home runs in a game.
While Coastal’s offense was clicking, CCU junior pitcher Andrew Beckwith improved to 8-1 as he scattered eight hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings. He only walked one and struck out seven. Zack Hopeck pitched the three final innings to earn his first save. He did not allow a hit while walking one and striking out three.
