Chants send 18 to podium on first day of CCU Invite

On Friday, the Coastal Carolina track and field teams hosted 48 college programs at the Coastal Carolina Invitational at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, where the Chanticleers on day one placed a total of 18 athletes in the top five of various events.

To begin the Friday portion of the Coastal Invite, senior Chloe White started off the Chants with a first-place finish in the women’s javelin with a throw of 41.43 meters. White’s teammate Marissa Cain finished two spots behind in third place as the redshirt junior from Ipswitch, Massachusetts threw a personal best of 36.89 meters.

In other field events for the Chant women, senior Samantha Layko picked up a second-place finish in the women’s hammer throw with a throw of 52.89 meters.

Junior Lizzie Allard finished just outside the top five with a seventh-place finish in the women’s pole vault with a top height of 3.60 meters.

In the women’s track events, the team of Anacia Hines, Jonnay Anthony, Tiffany Harris, and Eleni Frommann finished in second place with a time of 1:39.00 in the 4 x 200 meters. Mya Ray also picked up a top ten finish in sixth place in the women’s 800 meters as the freshman finished with a time of 2:34.09.

In the men’s field events, Coastal seniors Robert Castellani and Nick Seabright also picked up top-five finishes in the men’s javelin. Castellani placed third with a throw of 59.45 meters and Seabright finished fifth with a distance of 52.75 meters.

Two Chanticleers 4×200 relay squads dominated the event. The team of Ryan McCain, Therius Styles, Kahlim Denmark, Jerome Coaxum Jr. took home first place with a time of 1:26.56. Just right behind in second place, with a time of 1:27.36, was Tre Stanley, Malcolm Simmons, Tydarius Floyd, and Devin Pringle.

Coastal Carolina will continue with the Coastal Invitational at Doug Shaw Stadium on Saturday as events begin at 9:30 p.m.
