Chants wrap up preseason practices with scrimmage

Coastal Carolina’s football team concluded preseason workouts with a controlled situational scrimmage that lasted 90 minutes. The Chanticleers worked on all aspects of the game including situational goal line snaps.

“There is no question the team has gotten better. We began with everyone showing up in good shape with good attitudes and with good leadership from within the squad. Then we hit some real heat that slowed us down a bit and we were having repeat mistakes and that is certainly not acceptable, but the last few days of practice has been our best of the preseason.”

While the Chants defense made plenty of plays over the course of the practice, CCU’s offensive production included prolonged drives and long plays.

All eyes continue to be on the quarterbacks for the Chants and CCU’s top quarterbacks, while not perfect, made plenty of plays. Kilton Anderson continues to work with the first team and made several big plays. He threw two touchdown passes while also displaying his running ability on several run-pass options.

Chance Thrasher also had a big day behind center. The junior tossed two scoring passes and ran for another as he displayed his ability to run the Chants offense.

CCU spent a lot of time on special teams looking at both Marcus Outlaw and Ky’Jon Tyler returning kicks and punts. Both players also played with the first teams on the offensive side of the ball.

Massimo Biscardi did a lot of the field goal and PAT work and connected on three field goals during today’s action. Evan Rabon handled the punting and place kicking chores and just like last year, had several booming punts to pin the offense deep in its own territory.

The team will take Sunday and Monday off, with Monday being the first day of class on campus. The Chants will return to the practice field Tuesday to begin preparations for the Sept. 1 season-opener at South Carolina.
