4A Roundup: Chiefs crush Lions; Sharks fall on road

nmbfoot-4runThe North Myrtle Beach High football team got an early wake-up call from rival Loris on Friday night, but the host Chiefs answered the bell with 46 unanswered points to quickly knock out the Lions 46-7.

Loris’ Tevin Livingston scored just 2 minutes into the contest, and the Chiefs (2-0) found themselves trailing 7-3 at the end of the first quarter, thanks to a 45-yard field goal by Andrew Smith.

But North Myrtle Beach came to life to score three unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter. After NMB quarterback Ronnie Bass was intercepted in the red zone, the Chiefs defense returned the favor on Tyler Gore’s 66-yard pick-six.

North Myrtle Beach’s tailback tandem of TJ Gore and Kered Class took over from there. Gore’s 32-yard TD run put the Lions on their heels, and Class’ 1-yard TD run gave the Chiefs a 24-7 halftime lead.

The Chiefs took advantage of four Loris turnovers, including a pair of fumble recoveries in the third period. The latter set up Bass’ 14-yard TD pass to Reese Finch, and Bass added a 26-yard TD run.

The Chiefs defense delivered a late safety, and special teams got in the act as Tyler Gore took a punt 62 yards to the house to put the game to bed. North Myrtle Beach limited Loris to only 117 yards while the offense rolled up 283.

North Myrtle Beach plays its third straight home game next Friday against West Brunswick (NC).

* Waccamaw 19, St. James 17: The Sharks (0-2) came up short on a potential game-tying 2-point conversion late in the fourth quarter as the Warriors scored a home victory over St. James.

Trailing 19-3 in the second half, St. James got a TD and a 2-pointer to cut the deficit in half, and got a TD in the final minute but came up short on the 2-point attempt that would have sent the game into overtime.
