Chiefs leave it all on the mat in region win over Bulldogs

nmbwrestle-montyThe North Myrtle Beach wrestling team literally had Wednesday’s match with Georgetown won before it started.

With the short-handed Bulldogs forced to forfeit nine of 14 weight classes, the Chiefs could have easily mailed in the remaining matches. But the five weight divisions that did have two wrestlers were well worth the price of admission despite the Chiefs’ lopsided 63-6 victory.

With wins coming via forfeit for North Myrtle Beach’s Dylan Gibson (106), Ismael El Bouathmani (113), Luke Simmons (120), Harper Newber (126), Codie Aube (132), Jordyn Gillings (160), Stephon Wilson (195), Alonzo Stevenson (220) and Nolan Callahan, the other five Chiefs were basically wrestling for pride – and they showed a lot of it.

North Myrtle Beach got wins via pin by Curtis Wolfe (182) in the second round and Deandre Carolina (145) in the third round. Rahsaan Vereen (152) won the thriller of the night with a 10-9 decision over Fred Taylor, and Tanner Collins (138) and Dequan Montgomery lost close decisions, 5-3 and 17-13, respectively.
