Soccer: Saints win twinbill; MB, NMB, SJ boys prevail

cambsoc-bootThe Chrsitian Academy of Myrtle Beach boys and girls soccer teams scored a sweep over different opponents in a mixed doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Lady Saints rolled to a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Calvary Christian, while the CAMB boys got taken to the limit against Lowcountry Prep before pulling out a 5-4 win.

CAMB’s Cody Williams broke a 4-all tie with 10 minutes remaining when he converted the game-winning goal at the 30-minute mark of the second half. Goalkeeper Spencer Underwood and the Saints’ defense made it hold up.

The Saints led 4-1 before Calvary mounted a comeback. Josh Lang scored a pair of goals, and Todd Carroll and Allen Butler added goals, but Calvary tallied three straight scores to tie it up at 4. That set the stage for Williams to score the game-winner.

There was less drama in the girls game as Mary Chandler Butler and Katya Durocher scored two goals apiece and goalkeeper Emily Johnson capped another shutout. Natalie Markley scored one goal and added an assist while sister Julia Markley also had an assist.

The Lady Saints welcome Lowcountry Prep on Wednesday while the Saints face off with visiting Trinity-Byrnes on Wednesday.
