Volleyball Wrapup: Conway, NMB, St. James top regions

The Conway volleyball team opened region play with a 3-0 sweep over host South Florence on Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers (6-3 overall, 1-0 Region VI-AAAA) used a balanced attack to put away the Lady Bruins 25-15, 25-11, 25-16. Conway chalked up 12 kills in the first set – four kills from four different players.

“I was very happy with the balance we showed offensively,” Conway coach Tricia Junga said. “The team showed good focus and was able to execute our offense very efficiently throughout the match.”

Senior setter Ryley Hughes had 24 assists, senior middle hitter Bridgette Harper had nine kills and two blocks, and junior outside hitter Madison Gore had six kills, five service aces and eight digs.

The Lady Tigers next face visiting rival Carolina Forest at 6 p.m. Thursday for first place in the region standings.

* North Myrtle Beach 3, Wilson 0: The Lady Chiefs (9-0, 3-0 Region VII-AAA) remained undefeated by dominating the host Lady Tigers 25-2, 25-5, 25-11.

North Myrtle Beach senior Taylor Allman recorded 10 kills, Ellen Johnson added seven kills and Tara Hix added five aces in a one-sided sweep.

The Lady Chiefs  play host to St. James in a showdown for first place in the region on Thursday.

* St. James 3, Myrtle Beach 1: The Lady Sharks improved to 3-0 in the region with a 25-8, 25-20, 18-25, 25-21 victory over the defending region champion Lady Seahawks.

St. James’ Hayley Settle recorded 20 service points and eight kills, and sister Courtney Settle added eight service points and six kills.

The Lady Sharks face a key region showdown at undefeated North Myrtle Beach on Thursday with first place in the region standings on the line.

* Socastee 3, Georgetown 0: The Lady Braves scored another region victory over the visiting Lady Bulldogs, taking sets of 25-14, 25-12, 25-4 for the sweep..

Socastee’s Dale Rogers registered nine kills and 20 aces, including a stretch of 13 straight, Anna Marie Guest had nine kills, three aces and a block, and Alison Markley added 14 assists and two kills.

The Lady Braves (4-5, 2-1 Region VII-AAA) play host to Wilson on Thursday.
