CresCom Recap: MB falls in OT; Dreher reaches semis

Myrtle Beach suffered a 48-42 overtime loss to Our Lady of Mercy (NJ) in Thursday’s opener of the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational at Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

The Lady Seahawks (5-5) built a 23-18 halftime lead but went ice cold in the second half, allowing the Lady Villagers (1-1) to rally in overtime for the victory.

Ali Dandrea scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Lady Villagers. Myrtle Beach’s Tanisha Brown netted a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Shavae Shaw added nine points and 10 boards.

The Lady Seahawks will face C.E. Murray at 8:15 a.m. Friday in a losers’ bracket game while Our Lady of Mercy takes on Potter’s House (FL) 11:45 a.m.

* Dreher 51, Center Point (AL) 36: The Lady Blue Devils (10-0) remained undefeated on the season and gave SC teams their only hope for a home-state winner in the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational.

Dreher’s Kaydra Duckett scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to send the Lady Blue Devils to the semifinals. Grabielle Holston had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Center Point.

* Edgewater (FL) 59, Heathwood Hall (SC) 54: The Lady Highlanders (4-5) made a late comeback bid but fell short against the Lady Eagles (11-1), who advance to the semifinals after a getting a scare Thursday.

Edgewater led by double digits with 6 minutes remaining, but Heathwood Hall cut the deficit to three points with 26 seconds left. Edgewater made its free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Edgewater’s Haley Clark led all scorers with 26 points. A’ja Wilson had 19 for Heathwood Hall.

* Archbishop Carroll (PA) 39, Miami Senior (FL) 24: The Lady Patriots (3-1) flexed their defensive muscle with a quarterfinal win over the Lady Stingrays (9-3), who shot just 16 percent from the field.

Sarah Curran led the Lady Patriots with 12 points and Lexi Stover added 11. Miami had no players in double figures.

* Pinewood Prep 51, Crestwood 29: The Lady Panthers (5-3) won an intra-state consolation match over the Lady Knights (6-4) thanks to a double-double by Jennifer Rhodes (10 points and 16 rebounds) and a near miss by Brianna Boyd (16 points, eight rebounds). Crestwood’s Faniquia Lewis tallied 13 points in the losing effort.

* Penfield (NY) 67, Perry County (KY) 34: The Lady Commodores (4-2) dominated the Lady Patriots (6-4) in a consolation match on Thursday. Margot Hetzke tallied a game-high 24 points and teammates Lucy Covley and Shelia Nesselbush added 15 and 12, respectively. Kayla Rankin had a team-high 11 points for Perry County.

* King’s Fork (VA) 59, Atlantic (FL) 37: The Lady Bulldogs (7-0) remained undefeated and charged into the semifinals with an easy win over the Lady Sharks (8-2). Adrienna McCrary scored 17 points to pace King’s Fork to the win.
